Chongqing, which is one of the six old-line industry bases in China, and also is the heartland of manufacturing in western region. The casting industry of Chongqing had laid a solid foundation at the Anti-Japanese War period, when China's main factories were moved or newly built the new Capital - Chongqing. In the 60 to the 1970s, in the course of the country's three-building strategy ，the foundry industry in Chongqing receive heavy development. The past 10 years, as the arrival of historic opportunity , such as the Chongqing Territory, the building of the Three Gorges reservoir area, the development of the western region, such as the arrival of historic opportunity, Chongqing's industrial development has entered a new age. Recently, to accommodate to the high-speed development of mainstay industries, such as automobile, motorcycle, metallurgy, chemical and mechanical industries etc, as the basal industry of manufacturing, Chongqing foundry trade also develops correspondingly.
After introducing advanced foundry technique and manufacture equipments from foreign country such as America, Germany, Spain, Japan, Italy, Switzerland and Sweden etc and purchasing corresponding homemade foundry equipments recently, at present, 40 automatic, half-automatic or mechanical foundry product lines have been built, and passels of sweeping backbone foundry enterprises with comparative advanced techniques come into being. According to incomplete statistic, there are 683 foundry enterprises, which have the productivity of 600,000 tons’ casting per year and 38,000 employees in the municipality. Among which, there are 8 foundry enterprises with the productivity over 10,000 tons per year, 13 foundry enterprises with the productivity range between 5,000 and 10,000 tons per year for ferrous casting; for non-ferrous metal casting (including Die Casting, Low Pressure Die Casting and Gravity Casting etc), there are 2 foundry enterprises with the productivity over 50,000 tons per year, 3 foundry enterprises with the productivity range between 10,000 and 50,000 tons per year, 6 foundry enterprises with the productivity range between 5,000 and 10,000 tons per year, 14 foundry enterprises with the productivity range between 2,000 and 5,000 tons per year, total the productivity over 300,000 tons’ aluminum alloy casting per year.
Current various product lines are as follows: 3 static press Molding Line, 5 Air Impact lines, 6 Resin Sand lines, 2 Lipid Vulcanize Water Glass Sand lines, 10 Jolt-Squeeze Mechanical Molding lines, 3 Shell Molding lines with Resin Sand, 4 Sand Coated Iron Mould lines used for Ferrous Moulding, 11 investment casting lines, 5 Precision Casting of Lost Form lines, 27 Die Casting lines, 22 Gravity Casting of non-ferrous Metal lines and 16 Low Pressure Die Casting lines.

Over the years, the universities, research institutes, factories and business representatives have discussed plans for the development of Chongqing casting. The entrepreneurs, academics and technicians together have created the bright future of the Chongqing casting. The Chongqing Foundry Industry Association and the Chongqing Institute of casting in Chongqing have already become a common home of the foundry workers.
